Well-known political watcher and analyst Greg Valliere plans to retire at the end of February, according to AGF Investments, where he is chief U.S. policy strategist.
Valliere will continue delivering his daily Capitol Insights newsletter until his retirement, AGF announced Monday.
"Throughout his time with AGF, Greg provided valuable insight into how U.S. politics shaped global markets and served as a trusted spokesperson, delivering relevant and timely perspectives during a particularly eventful period marked by heightened political and market uncertainty," AGF said in a statement.
"We sincerely thank Greg for his many contributions to the firm and congratulate him on an exceptional career spanning four decades, including seven years with AGF," the firm said.
Valliere said in his Monday newsletter that "It's possible that the current shutdown will only last for a few days; it could even end by tomorrow night."
"The desire to compromise comes from another source — a growing fear among Republicans that they will get hammered in the November elections," Valliere states. "A GOP open house seat in Texas was wiped out easily in an election on Saturday in Houston. The easy win stunned Republicans."
House Speaker Mike Johnson "is ready to pass a bill that will end the shutdown while spending $1.2 trillion," Valliere wrote. "The House will debate, separately, spending for the Department of Homeland Security."
