Some universities are notable for attracting students who become company founders.
To identify the schools with exceptional track records for producing future entrepreneurs, PitchBook annually ranks institutions by the number of alumni who have started companies backed by venture capital during the past decade. The rankings are powered by PitchBook data, with an analysis of more than 173,000 VC-backed founders.
The 2025 PitchBook university rankings are based on the number of founders whose companies received a round of venture funding between Jan. 1, 2014, and Sept. 1, 2025.
Since companies can have more than one founder, and founders can attend multiple schools, PitchBook notes, it is possible for the same company or founder to count toward multiple universities.
