PNC and Chase banks and the Zelle money transfer service encountered glitches Friday afternoon, including login problems, according to trouble reports logged on outage monitoring website Downdetector.
The site indicated it had logged over 350 problem reports for PNC starting around 3:35 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, including online banking and mobile and online login.
Customers indicated problems with Chase, including account balances and transactions, web login and QuickPay with Zelle, starting around 2 p.m., according to Downdetector, which showed nearly 180 reports shortly before 4 p.m. Trouble reports for Zelle appeared to reach 160 around the same time, the outage site showed.
It was unclear if the reported Zelle problems were connected to any institutions besides Chase.
"This is an area that falls under the banks’ processes and policies. From a network perspective, Zelle is operating as intended," a Zelle spokesperson told ThinkAdvisor by email.
Representatives from JPMorgan Chase didn't immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
A PNC spokesperson said the issue at that bank was brief and resolved.
"I JUST tried to get on PNC on my phone and PC... neither will connect. Site down. I was just wondering what was going on," one X user posted in response to a Downdetector message about PNC issues.
Another X user posted to Chase: "@ChaseSupport why is zelle down? I’m literally trying to pay bills. There’s always an issue with Chase!!!"
