Most of the 11 largest publicly traded broker-dealers posted year-over-year profit growth in the third quarter of 2024, with just four reporting declining earnings — the same tally as in the prior quarter.
During the period, the S&P 500 improved for the fourth straight quarter and made 18 new highs; it rose 5.9% in Q3, while small caps had their second-best quarter since 2021 and improved a whopping 9.3%.
Financial firms kick off their fourth-quarter earnings season on Jan. 10, when JPMorgan and Wells Fargo plan to report their latest quarterly and annual results.
