Martha Wofford to Lead Rhode Island Blue: Personnel Moves

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island has hired Martha Wofford to succeed Kim Keck as its CEO Keck left the Providence, Rhode Island-based health insurer to become the CEO of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. Wofford has been group vice president at DaVita Inc., a company that provides kidney dialysis services. Wofford has a bachelor's degree from Swarthmore College and a master's degree in business from Northwestern University. She started out as a special assistant at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. She later was the White House Climate Change Task Force communications director, a senior associate at Booz Allen Hamilton, and then an executive at Aetna. She left Aetna in 2014 to go to DaVita. In other personnel moves news: The Savings Bank Mutual Life Insurance Company of Massachusetts, has hired William McDermott to be a vice president and head of direct-to-consumer sales. McDermott previously was head of U.S. sales operations for Global Life Distribution Inc., He also has been vice president, case management, at TZ Insurance Solutions, and he's been director of the managed care services provider division at Dawson Healthcare. Sammons Financial Group Inc. has hired Cooper Sinclair to be associate vice president, sales and distribution for RIA distribution. Sinclair will oversee efforts to expand the company's fee-based RIA channel. He previously worked in RIA distribution at Prudential Financial Inc. He has worked with RIA distribution at Aegon, Jefferson National and Lincoln Financial. Sinclair has a bachelor's degree from Hanover College. Ameritas has announced the results of six officer elections. The company has elected the following executives to vice president:

• Mike Gatliff: vice president - investments
• Steve Isaacs: vice president - business development
• Lined Mason: vice president - service, for the individual division.
• Blinda Weber: vice president - information technology

These employees were elected to second vice president:

• Nathan River: second vice president - digital products and channels

Health Care Service Corp. — the Chicago-based parent of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois and other Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans — has named Jim Springfield to be president of its Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas unit. Springfield previously was the national chief operating officer at Cancer Treatment Centers of America. He has been the CEO of Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, the chief operating officer of Memorial Hermann Health System, and the CEO of Valley Baptist Health System. Also, he has been the chairman of Revilix, a litigation support services firm. Springfield has a bachelor's degree from Baylor University and a master's degree in business from the University of Houston. MetLife Inc. has hired Robin Gordon to be chief data and analytics officer. She previously was the chief information officer for seven companies in the real estate portfolio at Blackstone. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of South Africa and a master's degree in business from the University of Texas. Before going to work for Blackstone, she worked at Dun & Bradstreet and CoreLogic. Triple-S Management Corp. — a health insurer based in San Juan, Puerto Rico — has named Victor Haddock-Morales executive vice president and chief financial officer. He previously was the CFO at Magellan Health Inc.'s Magellan Rx management division. He later worked as an internal auditor at Express Scripts. He has a bachelor's degree from the University of Puerto Rico and a master's degree in business from Washington University in St. Louis. Centene Corp. has named Joshua Sloop to be the CEO for its WellCare of Kentucky plan. Sloop previously was the chief operating officer at PA Health & Wellness, a Centene plan in Pennsylvania. Aegon Corp., the parent of Transamerica, says its chief human resources officer, Carla Mahieu, will step down June 1. Humana Inc. says Brian Kane, its CFO, is leaving to pursue broader career goals. Susan Diamond, the president for Humana's Home Business, will be the interim CFO.
