International life and health insurance businesses represent a significant portion of the world's top companies, which Fortune magazine compiles annually as part of its Global 500 list.
There are more than 30 life and health insurers ranked this year, along with many more companies from the property and casualty insurance arena.
According to Fortune, together the companies on its Global 500 list fueled $27.6 trillion in total revenues in 2015, and $1.5 trillion in profits. These companies employ 67 million people worldwide, and are located in 33 different countries.
The regions of the world with the largest concentration of Global 500 companies are North America, China and Western Europe.
"More than 100 of the world's biggest companies (are) now headquartered in China," journalist Keith Breene noted in a recent article for the World Economic Forum. "Only the United States has more companies on the list."
Keep reading for a look at all of the life and health insurance companies whose revenues and profits (in American dollars) qualify them as being among the biggest and most robust businesses in the world.
