Barack Obama's nominee for defense secretary will face a tough crowd at a nomination hearing today. The controversial figure — among both Democrats and Republicans — will have to defend past positions on Iran, Israel, homosexuality and defense spending cuts. Do not expect him to have a smooth and genial confirmation as John Kerry did earlier this week.
