Two major health care worker unions have joined forces in California to better fight concessions sought by hospitals and health care companies in contract talks. The National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW) and the California Nurses Association (CNA) will now jointly represent some 95,000 health care workers on what could become a major step towards creating a national health care workers union. The affiliation comes when both the NUHW and the CAN have engaged in public fights with health care companies such as Kaiser Permanente and Sutter Health.
