Genworth Financial's 2012 Cost of Long-Term Care Survey takes a look at the escalating costs of LTC of various types throughout the country. The survey was conducted by CareScout and provides data from almost 15,300 LTC providers in all 50 states as well as Washington, D.C. It is broken down into 437 regions across the country. Also available at Genworth's website are an interactive map and a mobile app that provide access to the data.
Those anticipating a need for LTC might want to steer clear of these ten states if they want to keep costs down. Each state's costs for the four categories of licensed home care, assisted living, nursing home private rooms and adult day care are included with each slide.
The costs have been averaged for three of the four categories: licensed home care, assisted living and nursing home private rooms. Adult day care was omitted from the average (but provided separately for your knowledge) because variation in that category is so wide from state to state, and from other LTC expenses within each state, that it results in an inaccurate picture of overall LTC expenses.
