Assets in U.S.-listed exchange-traded funds and exchange-traded notes approached $1.1 trillion at the end of August, according to data released Tuesday by National Stock Exchange Inc. This was a 31% increase over August 2010, when assets totaled some $815 billion.
Other highlights from the August report include:
- ETFs/ETNs posted net cash inflows of more than $2 billion for August.
- Year-to-date net cash inflows grew by approximately 54% over the same period in 2010, reaching $73.2 billion, up from $47.6 billion.
- ETF/ETN notional trading volume during August 2011 totaled nearly $3 trillion, representing almost 37% of all U.S. equity trading volume.
- At the end of August, 1,301 products were listed, compared with 1,046 products listed at the same time last year.
