Francine Young is taking over as chief operating officer of Nippon Life Benefits.
Nippon Life Benefits, New York, a unit of Nippon Life Insurance Company, Osaka, Japan, says Young, who has been a senior vice president of distribution and business development at the company, will succeed Gerald Patterson.
Patterson is preparing to take over as the manager of the institutional and retail annuity business at Principal Financial Group Inc., Des Moines, Iowa (NYSE:PFG).
Ron Danilson, the current manager of the business, plans to retire later this year, Nippon Life says.

- Great-West Retirement Services, Greenwood Village, Colo., a unit of Power Corp. of Canada, Montreal, has hired Sam Ghazaleh to be vice president of retirement solutions for its individual retirement account strategy. Ghazaleh will oversee retirement planning and distribution efforts.
Ghazaleh previously was an executive at Fidelity Investments, Boston.
Ghazaleh served in the Air Force for 5 years.
Ghazaleh has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Duke University and a master's degree in business from the University of Pennsylvania.
- Lockton Companies L.L.C., Kansas City, Mo., has hired Joe Lammel to run a new risk management and employee benefits office in Memphis, Tenn.
Lockton will be hiring several professionals with employee benefits and property-casualty insurance expertise to help run the office, the company says.
Lammel previously was an insurance broker in the Memphis office of Marsh Inc.
He has a bachelor's degree in risk management from the University of Memphis
Lockton also has hired Ed Rivas to be an account executive in its office Miramar, Fla.
- Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll P.L.L.C., Washington, has brought in Suzanne Dugan, formerly the special counsel for ethics to the New York State Comptroller, to be head of a new fiduciary and ethics consulting practice.
The practice will counsel pension funds on fiduciary, ethics, governance and compliance issues.
Luke Bierman, formerly the general counsel to the New York State Comptroller, will be of counsel to the practice.
