Benefit brokers accounted for about $2.8 billion in worksite and voluntary insurance product sales in 2009, according to Eastbridge Consulting Group Inc.

Eastbridge, Avon, Conn., says benefit brokers produced 52% of the $5.4 billion in voluntary and worksite sales recorded in 2009.

Eastbridge has based those figures on results from a survey of about 60 carriers in the group voluntary market and in the worksite market for individual products.

Career agents came in second, with $1.2 billion in sales, and classic worksite brokers generated about $794 million in sales.
