DFA Capital Management Inc. is marketing 3 new financial forecasting tools to insurers and other financial services companies.

DFA, Purchase, N.Y., says it has extended the GEMS family of economic simulation and forecasting tools by adding the GEMS – Scenario Master, the GEMS – Portfolio Analyzer and the GEMS – Enterprise Modeler modeling products.

The Scenario Master tool can help users model interest rates, inflation, corporate credit risk, equity markets, and foreign exchange rates. It also can help users factors such as gross domestic product and unemployment.

The Portfolio Analyzer tool combines the modeling tools with tools for allocating assets, hedging variable annuities and managing pension risk.

The Enterprise Modeler tool gives a company the ability to aggregate assets at the entity level and manage investments and capital in compliance with several different accounting and regulatory regimes.

- Securian, a unit of Minnesota Mutual Companies Inc., St. Paul, Minn., has introduced a Personal Savings Illustration tool. The tool can encourage workers to join a retirement plan by showing them the results they could experience under a variety of savings scenarios, Securian says.

- VERTEX Inc., New Britain, Conn., has introduced a term and permanent life product platform, and it says Blue Frog Solutions Inc., Pompano Beach, Fla., will use VERTEX product rules in its own AFFIRM for Life platform.

- SunGard Data Systems Inc., Wayne, Pa., has introduced MyWealthSeries, a set of Web-based financial planning tools that financial professionals can offer clients and prospects through their own Web sites.

The tools can help consumers analyze their retirement, education, asset allocation and estate planning arrangements, SunGard says.

SunGard is offering the tools on a "pay as you go" basis and running the software needed to offer the tools on its own servers.

- Fidelity Life Association, Ann Arbor, Mich., will give customers who are applying for life insurance the option to feed personal medical data from their applications into a Microsoft HealthVault account.

Unival Inc., Ann Arbor, developed the technology Fidelity Life is using to feed the medical data into the HealthVault accounts.

- PatientCentral Technologies L.L.C., Houston, has introduced the Wellness Toolbox system, which complements the firm's MyHealthArchive system.

The new tools include a calendar, a performance graphing system, a performance logging system, and a form that consumers can use to prepare for physician office visits.
