The Massachusetts Division of Insurance has approved Manulife Financial Corp.'s plan to merge 3 John Hancock units.
Manulife, Toronto, wants to merge its John Hancock Life Insurance Company and John Hancock Variable Life Insurance subsidiaries into John Hancock Life Insurance Company (U.S.A.).
The Massachusetts DOI held hearings on the merger proposal Aug. 5.
