The New York Life Foundation has developed a guide to help children cope with death in their family.
The foundation, set up by New York Life Insurance Co., is offering the guide, "After a Family Member Dies," both online and in print as part of its Nurturing the Children program.
The guide was created with the help of experts on childhood bereavement. It describes how parents and other adults can help children understand death and offers suggestions for helping children cope.
The New York Life Foundation says it has also provided $3 million in grants to Comfort Zone Camp and $600,000 to the Moyer Foundation's Camp Erin, two nonprofits devoted to assisting bereaved children.
