A new series of dental health maintenance organization products includes easier access to free and low-cost cleanings.
The Bloomfield, Conn., operations of CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, say the new dental HMO plans include coverage for up to 4 routine cleanings a year – with 2 at no cost and 2 for a relatively low co-payment – when extra cleanings are recommended by the dentist.
CIGNA also is eliminating the requirement that cleanings be done at least 6 months apart.
Children will be covered for 2 fluoride treatments per year.
The plans place no age restrictions on use of sealants and require no referrals for orthodontic care.
No referrals are needed for care by a network pediatric dentist for children under age 7.
Employers can offer the plans with or without orthodontia cover, and they can offer the plans on an employer-paid or employee-paid basis.
The dental plans come with a built-in identity theft resolution benefit and access to the CIGNA Healthy Rewards health and wellness benefits program.
