A former CIGNA Corp. executive will appear on PBS tonight to discuss his concerns about health insurance industry lobbying initiatives.
Wendell Potter, who is now a senior fellow at the Center for Media and Democracy, Madison, Wis., will be featured on Bill Moyers Journal.
The show is set to air in many PBS markets at 9 p.m. EDT today.
Potter testified at a Senate Commerce Committee hearing June 24. He says is "speaking out about how big for-profit insurers have hijacked our health care system and turned it into a giant ATM for Wall Street investors."
Potter writes in a CMD blog entry that the health insurance is pretending to support health reform through a "PR charm offensive" but using allies outside the industry to fight aspects of the reform package that it does not like, such as the creation of a public health insurance option.
Health insurance industry also have allies from outside the industry express industry talking points in letters to the editor, Potter says.
