Health savings account programs and health reimbursement arrangement programs may be gaining traction this year.
Researchers at Wells Fargo Insurance Services, a unit of Wells Fargo & Company, San Francisco, have published data supporting that conclusion in a review of results from a survey of 400 U.S. employers of various sizes.
About 6% of participating employers added HSA programs this year, and 3% added HRA programs.
About 28% of all participating employers now offer some kind of personal health account program, the Wells Fargo researchers report.
No employer surveyed dropped major medical coverage this, and fewer than 30% asked employees to pay a large share of the total costs, made major changes to their prescription plans, or changed their carriers, the researchers report.
