The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation has published a look at the relationship between stranger-originated life insurance and Florida's insurable interest laws.
The 213-page report includes a history of insurable interests law, a review of Florida laws relating to viatical settlement, an analysis of the problems that regulators believe STOLI could cause, and a transcript of a recent Florida hearing on STOLI.
The report also offers a comparison of model laws adopted by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Kansas City, Mo., and the National Conference of Insurance Legislators, Troy, N.Y.
