A Minnesota health insurer says it will be taking member health improvement efforts in-house.
Medica Health Plans, Minnetonka, Minn., says it will replace existing health management vendor relationships with its own homegrown health coaching program.
Health coaches will try to take a "whole person" approach when talking to plan members instead of dealing with one condition at a time, Medica says.
The program will use claims data, provider referrals, patient self referrals and health risk assessments to identify coaching candidates, the company says.
