Joseph Wolfson, an automated teller machine industry pioneer, is starting what he hopes will be a national health care payment and discount network.
HealthTransaction Network Corp., Buffalo, N.Y., will provide electronic terminals, payment cards and a transaction-processing network in an effort to help patients pay doctors and other providers for routine care.
Doctors can use the network to offer discounts, and employers can deposit cash into employees' HealthTransaction payment cards, the company says.
Consumers will pay a small fee to get the payment cards and subscribe to the network system, HealthTransaction says.
HealthTransaction will start by forming relationships with providers and network users in the Northeast, then expand throughout the United States, the company says.
