U.S. states increased the number of specific health insurance coverage requirements to 1,961 in 2007, from 1,906 in 2006.
The Council for Affordable Health Insurance, Alexandria, Va., has published those figures in its latest review of state health insurance mandates.
Mandates add about 20% to 50% to the cost of a typical health insurance policy, CAHI estimates.
