Wal-Mart Stores Inc. says 92.7% of its employees now have health coverage, up from 90.4% a year ago.
During the fall 2007 open enrollment period, 690,970 employees signed up for Wal-Mart health plans, up about 8.6% from the number who signed up for Wal-Mart plans during the 2006 open enrollment period, according to Wal-Mart, Bentonville, Ark.
The percentage of Wal-Mart employees getting health coverage from Medicaid and other state health insurance programs held steady at about 3.1%, Wal-Mart reports.
Wal-Mart is commissioning a study to learn why some uninsured employees decline to take up Wal-Mart coverage, the company says.
