Well-educated young workers are less likely to have employer-sponsored major medical insurance than they used to be.
Liana Fox and Elise Gould, researchers at the Economic Policy Institute, Washington, have reported that finding in a an analysis of government data.
The percentage of employed college graduates ages 23 to 27 who have employment-based insurance fell to less than 61% in 2004-2005, from about 70% in 1999-2000 and 80% in 1984-1984, Fox and Gould write.
