A unit of Blue Shield of California has introduced a low-cost, medium-deductible health preferred provider plan designed solely for individuals.
California Blue, San Francisco, says its new Vital Shield 2900 plans offers no maternity benefits or brand-name prescription benefits but can costs as little as $42 per month for a healthy young applicant who chooses a $2,900 deductible.
The plan provides first-dollar coverage for generic drug prescriptions and two physician office visits before a policyholder meets the deductible, California Blue says.
The plan also covers preventive screenings and gynecological exams, and its network includes all California Blue preferred provider organization providers.
