Only 68% of employees working for employers with fewer than 10 workers have private health insurance, but 94% of employees at employers with more than 250 workers have coverage.
Researchers at the U.S. Small Business Administration have reported those figures in a report based on 2003 data from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
Only 49% of workers earning less than $9 an hour have health coverage, and only 37% of workers earning less than $9 an hour at employers with fewer than 10 employees have coverage.
Meanwhile, 93% of workers who earn more than $15 an hour have coverage.
Even at firms with fewer than 10 employees, 82% of the workers earning more than $15 an hour have health insurance.
