Empire State officials are building a high-deductible health plan into a health insurance program for working uninsured residents, sole proprietors and small businesses.
New York's Healthy NY health insurance program will offer a health savings account-compatible HDHP option starting Jan. 1, 2007, officials say.
Healthy NY can choose between a plan that covers prescription drugs and a cheaper plan that does not cover prescription drugs. A no-prescription benefits option also will be available with the new HDHP, officials say.
The deductible for the HDHP will be $1,150 per individual and $2,300 per family, and choosing the high-deductible option should cut premium costs by about 20% to 25%, officials estimate.
