NU Online News Service, June 15, 2004, 1:33 p.m. EDT – Most U.S. group health plans now cover a full range of prescription contraceptives.[@@]

Researchers hired by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, New York, have found that the percentage of employer-sponsored group health plans that cover birth control pills and other contraceptives increased to 86% in 2002, from just 28% in 1993.

The percentage of plans covering no method at all fell to 2%, from 28%, and 20 states now have laws that require insurers to provide contraceptives for their employees if they cover other prescription drugs, the institute says.
