NU Online News Service, April 4, 2003, 12:43 p.m. EST – The Pennsylvania Senate is considering a bill that could prohibit employers from discontinuing employer-sponsored life insurance benefits for employees called up to active-duty military service.
The sponsor is Sen. Jack Wagner, D-Pittsburgh, minority chair of the Senate Banking & Insurance Committee, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps infantry in Vietnam.
Wagner is still seeking sponsors and has not yet received a bill number, according to a spokeswoman.
Federal law already prohibits employers from treating employees called to active-duty any worse with respect to life insurance benefits and other ancillary benefits than employees out on other types of leave are treated
