A life insurer has tapped an athlete to draw attention to the importance of life insurance.

Tony Gwynn, a former San Diego Padres player who has joined the National Baseball Hall of Fame, will be going on a national radio media tour Friday to help Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, New York, promote Life Insurance Awareness Month.

Gwynn's father died of a heart attack in 1994, when Gwynn was 33.
