John Hancock says its Boston Marathon fundraising program has raised $3.3 million for Boston-area nonprofit groups this year.
Hancock, part of Manulife Financial Corp., Toronto, says the marathon fundraising total increased from $2.9 million in 2006.
In other philanthropic news:
- Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Milwaukee, celebrated its 150th anniversary by giving $1.5 million to 4 national charities and $150,000 to Milwaukee-area charities.
The largest donation of $500,150 went to American's Second Harvest, Chicago, a nationwide network of food banks.
