What You Need to Know

  • The companies have been supporting the campaign for 19 straight years.
  • The total includes a $200,000 corporate donation.
  • For the past two years, the companies have replaced street-corner-based fundraising with social media-based efforts.

Bankers Life and its parent, CNO Financial Group, have raised $424,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association through this year’s Forget Me Not Days campaign.

Bankers Life — a company that still offers long-term care insurance, along with life insurance, annuities and supplemental health insurance products — and CNO increased the total from $332,000 in 2020.

The total also is up from $369,000 in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

Researchers reported in Health Affairs in June that the COVID-19 death rate for Medicare enrollees suffering from dementia is about 32%.

Bankers Life and CNO have been mounting the Forget Me Not campaigns for 19 straight years. The campaigns support efforts to fight Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia.

Before the pandemic struck, companies raised much of the money for the campaigns by sending employees, agents and other volunteers to collect money on street corners.

For the past two years, the companies have relied on social media-based efforts and corporate donations.

The fundraising total this year includes $200,000 in corporate donations, along with $34,200 raised from local Walk to End Alzheimer’s events in Chicago, where Bankers Life is based, and in Indianapolis, near where CNO is based.

The 2019 total included $179,000 in corporate contributions, and the 2020 total included $200,000 in corporate contributions.
