Members of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions are about to kick off a series of four hearings on stabilizing the individual major medical insurance market around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., the chairman of the Senate HELP Committee, and Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., the highest-ranking Democrat, are hoping the hearings will lead to legislation that will keep the U.S. individual major medical market functioning in 2018.

Here’s a list of the hearings scheduled, and the types of witnesses expected to speak at those hearings:

10 a.m. EDT Sept. 6: State insurance commissioners.

9 a.m. EDT Sept. 7: Governors.

10 a.m. Sept. 12: Advocates for state flexibility.

10 a.m. Sept. 14: Health care stakeholders.
The Senate HELP Committee streams live video of its hearings while they are in progress, and posts video recordings of the hearings after the hearings are over.

Some of the 20 witnesses listed at press time may have active insurance agent or broker licenses.
At least one, Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak, has had a producer’s license in the past.
