The American Council for Capital Formation, a pro-business lobbying group, announced Wednesday that Executive Vice President George David Banks has joined the White House as a senior advisor on international energy and environmental issues.

The Council said that Banks has accepted a position in the Trump administration as special assistant to the president and senior director for international energy and environment.

“We are honored to have one of our own serving in the new administration,” aid ACCF President and CEO Mark Bloomfield, in a statement. “David is a true thought-leader on energy policy and his hands-on experience promoting greater energy security and expertise in international relations will be a great asset to the Trump White House.”

Banks previously served as a CIA analyst and as a diplomat at the U.S. State Department under President George W. Bush, and as a top staffer on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.

Banks is credited by ACCF as being a central force in expanding the nonprofit, nonpartisan economic policy organization’s ability to impact federal public policy at the congressional and executive level.

“We wish David all the best in his new position and look forward to a continuation of the good work he did to advance responsible energy policy both domestically and internationally while at the ACCF,” Bloomfield said.
