XML Financial Group, formerly affiliated with LPL Financial, has struck out on its own, forming an RIA in Rockville, Maryland, and joining Focus Financial Partners.

Led by Brett Shane Bernstein and Robert Kantor, former advisors at LPL Financial, the firm plans to accelerate its regional expansion through merger and acquisition activities in the greater Washington, D.C.-metro area, as well as throughout the East Coast

In addition to managing partners Bernstein and Kantor, the firm has a team of 15 professionals, each with an average of 10 years of industry experience. The group has about $600 million in client assets

In a statement, Bernstein said, “We have been looking for a partner who could help us take the firm to the next level. Focus turned out to be a perfect fit for us because of the superb access to capital and expertise in M&A and value-add growth support it provides.”

In addition, the Harvest Group Wealth Management left UBS behind to launch itself as a family-owned RIA. The Waltham, Massachusetts-based team of Roger Ingwersen, his son Todd Ingwersen and daughter Laurie Ingwersen works high-net-worth individuals and families. It has roughly $300 million in client assets.

“At the core of our business has always been an independent spirit driven by our endless pursuit to do what is right for our clients,” Roger Ingwerson said in a statement. “In order to continue that legacy, we have made the important decision to operate independently, giving us the freedom to take full control of wealth management decisions that we believe are best suited for the needs of our clients and their families.”

Hiring News

Parallel Advisors, a fee-only multi-custodial RIA with $1.3 billion says it recently appointed Relura Horton as its new president and chief operating officer. In her new post, Horton will help the RIA execute its strategic growth plan.

Horton brings 16 years of experience in the independent financial services sector to Parallel Advisors. Most recently, she served as regional managing director of the West Coast for Fidelity Custody and Clearing Services and oversaw Fidelity’s Sales and Relationship Management efforts in the West.

“Our appointment of Relura Horton as president and COO of Parallel Advisors is the latest senior hire in a longstanding organizational strategy we have had in place since our firm’s inception,” said Parallel Advisors CEO and Principal CJ Rendic, in a statement.

“With Relura’s extraordinary knowledge of the independent financial advice space and extensive understanding of the needs of both advisors and end clients, we are well-positioned to accelerate our recruiting and retention efforts even further, and to achieve our goal of expanding to $10 billion in AUM within the next seven years,” Rendic explained.

Meanwhile, at Envestnet Retirement Solutions, Kelly Michel has been hired as chief marketing officer. With more than 25 years of experience in the retirement services industry, Michel is responsible for the firm’s strategic marketing initiatives. She was formerly vice president of sales and marketing for Newport Group.

“All areas of the retirement services industry are grappling with compliance challenges due to the new fiduciary standards,” she said in a statement. “In today’s rapidly evolving marketplace, ERS’s holistic approach to connecting advisors and recordkeeping service providers enables these parties to deliver transparency, fiduciary support, and improved overall results for plan sponsors and participants.”
