Professional race car driver Danica Patrick hopes to motivate people to take a fresh look at their life insurance needs this fall when she serves as spokesperson for Life Insurance Awareness Month. The annual campaign, which takes place in September, is coordinated by the nonprofit organization Life Happens to encourage the nearly 100 million Americans who do not have adequate life insurance to get the coverage they need. “Driving racecars is risky. Not having life insurance is riskier,” says Patrick, whose maternal grandfather died as a young man, leaving five children (including her mother) without life insurance. Roughly half of American households would experience hardship after the loss of a primary provider, according to Life Happens and LIMRA.
