Professional race car driver Danica Patrick hopes to motivate people to take a fresh look at their life insurance needs this fall when she serves as spokesperson for Life Insurance Awareness Month. The annual campaign, which takes place in September, is coordinated by the nonprofit organization Life Happens to encourage the nearly 100 million Americans who do not have adequate life insurance to get the coverage they need. “Driving racecars is risky. Not having life insurance is riskier,” says Patrick, whose maternal grandfather died as a young man, leaving five children (including her mother) without life insurance. Roughly half of American households would experience hardship after the loss of a primary provider, according to Life Happens and LIMRA.

Advisor Insurance Agency recently marked two milestones. The company, which is based in Willard, Missouri, celebrated its 10th anniversary as well as joining the Valley Insurance Agency Alliance, an alliance of nearly 100 independent insurance agencies in Missouri and Southern Illinois that generates more than $125 million in written premiums. “To me, this anniversary is a huge accomplishment and represents a lot of hard work,” Advisor Insurance Agency Owner Kirk Reisner said in a press release. “I started working in the insurance industry in 1998, and I am very lucky to run an agency that protects both individuals and businesses.”

Boston Mutual Life Insurance Co. has appointed Joseph W. Sullivan vice president and chief underwriting and product officer. In this newly created role, Sullivan will oversee the company’s underwriting and product development efforts, and create a strategic vision, objectives and operational plans for an integrated underwriting and product department. “With his extensive experience in the insurance industry, Joseph Sullivan will play an integral role in expanding our underwriting expertise, product initiatives, and strengthening our position in the market,” said Paul A. Quaranto Jr., chairman, CEO and president at Boston Mutual, in a press release. Sullivan has previously held several leadership positions within the estate planning industry. His considerable credentials include a law degree from Suffolk University and a bachelor’s degree from Stonehill College.

Unum recently named Marco Forato senior vice president for corporate strategy and development. Forato, who already managed the company’s global growth strategy, is now accountable for strategic corporate development. That includes introducing new products and services, fostering strategic partnerships, and expanding Unum’s global footprint. Forato has been with Unum since 2007, and is relocating from England to the company’s Chattanooga headquarters this summer. Also at Unum, Tyler Siira has been named vice president and treasurer. In his new role, Siira will oversee all U.S. treasury functions including banking operations, liquidity management and capital market transactions.
