This week in personnel announcements and new hires, Pensionmark added an affiliated office in Denver; James Perkins joined the Mather Group; Paul Andrews was elected chairman of the International Forum for Investor Education; and New York Life elected John Kim president and made other personnel announcements.
Also, Alexandra Siefert went to 361 Capital; William Blair & Co. added an advisor team; and U.S. Bank Wealth Management made two announcements at the Private Client Reserve in Madison, Wisconsin.
Kim Named New York Life President
New York Life has announced that John Kim has been elected president, effective immediately. He succeeds Ted Mathas, chairman and CEO, who remains in those roles, and continues to report to Mathas.
Kim, who retains the role of chief investment officer, joined in 2008 after serving as president of Prudential Retirement. Earlier he had been president of CIGNA Retirement and Investment Services. He also spent 17 years with Aetna Life & Casualty, where he rose to the position of CEO and CIO of Aeltus Investment Management as well as CIO of Aetna Life Insurance and Annuity Company.
The company also announced that Chris Blunt will return to run the investments group as president. He will report to Kim.
Blunt joined in 2004 as head of New York Life Investments’ retail investments strategy. He most recently headed the insurance and agency group with co-president Mark Pfaff. Pfaff will continue to run agency operations and report to Kim, who now has overall responsibility for the group. Pfaff plans to retire at year-end after 30 years of service.
Also, Yie-Hsin Hung has been named CEO of New York Life’s asset management subsidiary, New York Life Investment Management LLC (NYLIM), effective immediately. She will report to Blunt.
Hung was previously co-president of NYLIM. She replaces Drew Lawton, who has decided to retire at the end of this year. He is now a special advisor to Blunt.
In addition, Douglas Wheeler has been elected a senior vice president in its office of governmental affairs. He will continue to report to George Nichols III, SVP in charge of the office of governmental affairs.
Wheeler joined the firm in 2011. Prior to joining, he was the director of the division of insurance at the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance. In addition, he was vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at National Atlantic Holdings Corp. and the Proformance Insurance Co. He began his career as an attorney in several New Jersey law firms and served as staff counsel at the New Jersey Senate.
Denver Office Affiliates With Pensionmark
The Wright Group Services in Denver, Colorado has become an affiliated office of Pensionmark Retirement, joining its advisor support program.
Bryan Wright is the CEO, and brings 18 years of experience in the finance and insurance consulting industry.
Perkins Joins Mather Group
The Mather Group has announced that James Perkins has joined its Chicago investing team as a senior portfolio analyst.
Perkins previously was client relationship manager in the global family and private investment offices of Northern Trust Co. in Chicago.
Andrews Elected Chair of IFIE
Paul Andrews has been elected chairman of the International Forum for Investor Education at the group’s annual meeting prior to the 2015 IFIE-International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Global Investor Education Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Andrews is vice president and managing director of FINRA International.
IFIE members also elected Alparslan Budak, the assistant secretary general of the Turkish Capital Markets Association (TCMA), as IFIE vice chair, and Ana Claudia Leoni, the head of education at the Brazilian Financial and Capital Markets Association (ANBIMA), as IFIE treasurer/secretary.
361 Capital Welcomes Siefert
361 Capital has announced that Alexandra Siefert has joined as SVP of marketing.
Siefert spent more than 10 years at Janus Capital Group, where she held senior-level positions in marketing and strategy and planning, advisor practice management and content strategy. Earlier she was a marketing director at Charles Schwab. William Blair Adds Advisor Team
Global investment banking and asset management firm William Blair & Co. has added an advisor team to its private wealth management group in Boston.
Barbara Cummings, Robert Kjellman, and Carl (C.J.) Young, along with investment resource associate Karen Eames, have joined from Boston Private Wealth LLC.
Prestine, Sylla Named at Private Client Reserve
U.S. Bank Wealth Management has announced that Beth Curley Prestine has been named private banking managing director and John Sylla was named wealth management advisor, both at the Private Client Reserve in Madison, Wisconsin.
Curley Prestine brings more than 30 years of experience within the banking and financial services industry to her new post. Prior to joining, she was regional director for banking in the northern states region at BMO Private Bank.
Sylla brings nearly 20 years of experience within the banking and financial services industry to his new post. Prior to joining, he was managing director of BMO Private Bank in Madison.
