New Hire Roundup: Merrill Adds Wealth Management Teams in Florida, New York

This week in personnel announcements and new hires, Merrill Lynch added two wealth management teams; the Private Client Reserve named two private bankers in Minneapolis; Nandini Sukumar was named chief executive officer of the World Federation of Exchanges; and Stephen Reynolds joined Henderson Global Advisors.

Also, Jay O’Neil joined Barclays; the American Benefits Council named new board members; Aegon UK appointed the chair of its independent governance committee; Chad Horning was named president of Praxis Mutual Funds; and FIA announced new officers and directors.

Merrill Lynch Adds Wealth Management Teams in Florida and New York

Bobby Debbs and his six-person wealth management team have joined Merrill Lynch in Palm Beach, Florida, from UBS. Debbs will report to James Chahine, complex director, managing director and head of the Merrill Lynch Palm Beach complex. Debbs’s team includes Frederick Shapiro, senior vice president; Steven Colamarino, assistant VP; and Albert “Jiggs” David Hutzler III, first VP, as well as three client associates.

In addition, Ronald Slevin and his three-person wealth management team have joined Merrill’s Fifth Avenue financial center in New York. Slevin will report to Jeffrey Tucker, managing director and complex manager for the Fifth Avenue financial center. Slevin’s team includes George Gladman, Jared Stone and Jeffrey Tucker, client associate.

Debbs joined UBS in 2005; earlier, he worked for Source Capital Group in their investment banking division and also as the owner/operator of a technical staffing company. Shapiro has been in the financial services industry since 1997. Colamarino began his career with the private banking division of Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC. Hutzler was a financial advisor at UBS, Alex Brown & Sons, Prudential Securities, and Wachovia Securities.

Barclays Welcomes O’Neil

Barclays has announced that Jay O’Neil has joined as a managing director and regional manager for wealth and investment management in Los Angeles. He will report to Bill Scherr, managing director and West Coast regional head.

With more than 14 years of wealth management experience, O’Neil joins from Macquarie Bank, where he was most recently head of the private bank. Prior to that, he spent several years with Merrill Lynch in a number of prominent roles. Earlier he was director and regional branch manager for Credit Suisse Private Banking in south Texas.

ABC Names New Leaders, Board Members

The American Benefits Council has announced the new leaders of its Board of Directors elected at the its just-completed Board meeting.

The new board chairman is Jay Kirschbaum, senior vice president and national practice leader for Willis North America’s Benefits Legal & Research Group in St. Louis. Jay succeeds Janet Boyd, director of government relations, tax and benefits for the Dow Chemical Co.

Other officers are Vice Chairman Bob Holcomb, vice president, legislative and regulatory affairs, Empower Retirement; Vice Chairwoman Kate Ranalli, H.R. Rewards technical director, AstraZeneca; Treasurer Allison Klausner, assistant general counsel, benefits, Honeywell; Secretary Jeff Mains, assistant VP, health plans, AT&T.

Private Client Reserve Names Two in Minneapolis

U.S. Bank has announced that Jennifer Maschke and Debra Ruth have been named private bankers for the Private Client Reserve in Minneapolis.

With more than 12 years of banking and financial services industry experience, Maschke spent five years as a business banking officer with U.S. Bank’s business banking team. She also held roles with GE Healthcare Financial Services and Financial Institution Marketing Co. (FIMCO).

Ruth, with more than 20 years of banking and financial services industry experience, was formerly with U.S. Bank Wealth Management. Earlier she served as a private banking manager with Bremer Bank.

Sukumar Named CEO of World Federation of Exchanges

Nandini Sukumar was named CEO of the World Federation of Exchanges, the global trade association of regulated exchanges. She has served as acting CEO since last November.

Sukumar, hired by the WFE board as chief administrative officer last year, has run the Federation on a daily basis since July 2014. She joined after a 14-year career at Bloomberg News, where she created and established its coverage of exchanges and of the U.K. financial services regulator.

Reynolds Joins Henderson

Henderson Global Investors (North America) Inc. has announced that Stephen Reynolds has joined the North American institutional business development team. He is based in the Chicago office.

Prior to joining, Reynolds  worked at Aviva Investors, Deutsche Asset Management, PIMCO and Ibbotson Associates.

Aegon UK Names Independent Governance Committee Chair

Aegon UK has announced that Ian Pittaway has been named chair of its independent governance committee.

Pittaway has been a partner at Sacker & Partners LLP since 1996, the last 10 years as a senior partner. He has worked in pensions since 1982.

Horning Named Praxis Fund Family President

Chad Horning, chief investment officer for Everence, has been named president for the company’s mutual fund family, Praxis Mutual Funds. He succeeds David Gautsche, who is stepping down to become president and CEO of Goodville Mutual Casualty Co. in Pennsylvania. Horning will also serve as senior vice president for Everence.

Horning joined Everence in 1999, serving as an equity analyst. In addition to his role as CIO, he also serves as co-portfolio manager for the Praxis Value Index Fund, Praxis Growth Index Fund and Praxis Genesis portfolios. Prior to that, he was an economic analyst for DevTech Systems, an international consulting firm in Washington, D.C.

FIA Announces New Directors, Officers

The Futures Industry Association announced the election of eleven directors to its board, with eight elected to regular member two-year terms and three to associate member two-year terms. In addition, the board elected officers and public directors.

Gerald Corcoran, chairman and CEO, R.J. O’Brien & Associates LLC, was re-elected as chairman; Emily Portney, global head of agency clearing, collateral management and execution, J.P. Morgan Securities LLC, was reelected as secretary and also to another two-year term; and M. Clark Hutchison, managing director, head of North American listed derivatives, Deutsche Bank Securities Inc., was re-elected as treasurer. In addition, Michael Schaefer and Alice White were reelected as public directors by the new board.

Other regular member directors elected for two-year terms were Craig Abruzzo, managing director, Morgan Stanley; Jan Bart de Boer, chief commercial officer, ABN AMRO Clearing Bank N.V.; Maureen Downs, president, Rosenthal Collins Group LLC; Jeffrey Jennings, managing director, global head of prime derivatives services, Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC; Thomas Kadlec, president, ADM Investor Services; Jerome Kemp, global head of exchange-traded derivatives sales and clearing, Citigroup Global Markets Limited; and George Simonetti, head of markets clearing and futures execution, Wells Fargo Securities LLC.

Elected to associate member terms were Clive Christison, CEO, Global Oil Americas, BP Products North America; Thomas Erickson, VP, director of legal affairs, Bunge Product Lines; and Christopher Hehmeyer, managing member, HTG Capital Partners LLC.
