Designers of HealthCare.gov failed to include a tool for adding new babies to families’ coverage, the Associated Press is reporting.

The HealthCare.gov website glitch affects parents who buy private “qualified health plans” through the 36 federal exchanges run by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the HHS arm that runs HealthCare.gov, is telling carriers to have new parents call them directly to add newborns temporarily while it develops a tool to add babies to coverage through HealthCare.gov, according to AP.

Once the “add baby” tool is ready, the parents will have to use HealthCare.gov — or a broker, exchange call center or in-person exchange helper — to formally add babies to their coverage.
