This week in new hires, James King of Prudential Retirements Stable Value Markets Group was elected as SVIA chairman of the board, and Cambridge announced several internal promotions.

Also, Imaru Casanova joined Van Eck as senior gold analyst; Douglas Ragusa and Daniel Fay went to MassMutual; Advisors named Bart Daniel to a new position; and Shannon Reid became director of retirement solutions at Raymond James.


Prudential Retirement’s James King Named SVIA Chairman of the Board

Prudential Financial Inc. announced that James King, senior vice president and head of Prudential Retirement’s Stable Value Markets Group, has been elected chairman of the board for the Stable Value Investment Association. His term began Jan. 1.

SVIA is a nonprofit industry organization dedicated to educating retirement plan sponsors and participants about the importance of saving for retirement and the contribution stable value funds can make toward achieving retirement security.

Cambridge Announces Internal Promotions

Cambridge Investment Research Inc. announced Friday that it has made several promotions and expanded leadership in its practice management, compliance, and corporate strategies departments.

Colleen Bell was named assistant vice president in corporate strategies. In her new role, she will provide strategic direction in developing and executing innovative business strategies. Her initial focus will be on expanding Cambridge’s retirement center, building CIRRIAS with the advisory services team, and establishing trust services through Cambridge. She joined Cambridge in 2006 after working for the Securities and Exchange Commission as a securities examiner.

Julie Gebert has been named assistant vice president, practice management. In her new role, she will be responsible for managing the practice management team to ensure the delivery of coaching, educational, training, consulting, and mentoring programs designed to help Cambridge rep-advisors and OSJ managers achieve growth and success. She joined Cambridge in 2009 with over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to that, Gebert served as AVP/advisor coach for AIG Advisor Group.

Melissa Loner has been named assistant vice president, compliance. In her new position, she will be responsible for the advisory services, external audit, training, and registration and licensing teams. She has been in the financial services industry for over 10 years, with previous experience building supervisory programs and serving as director of advisory services for Cambridge.

Andrea Smith has been named assistant vice president, compliance. In this role, she will supervise the disclosures and dispute resolutions teams in addition to working with the regulatory liaison, advertising, and internal audit teams. She joined in 2007 and has served as complaints analyst, associate director, and director.

Van Eck Names Imaru Casanova Senior Gold Analyst

Van Eck Global announced Jan. 5 that Imaru Casanova has joined its investment team as senior gold analyst. She will serve on the teams responsible for overseeing the International Investors Gold Fund (INIVX), Global Hard Assets Fund (GHAAX) and Van Eck VIP Global Hard Assets Fund.

She brings more than 15 years of experience to the position, including technical and investment backgrounds. Formerly she was managing director and senior equity research analyst at McNicoll Lewis & Vlak, and prior to that she covered the gold mining sector as an equity research analyst at Barnard Jacobs Mellet USA and BMO Capital Markets.

MassMutual Retirement Services Adds to Sales, Client Management Organization

The MassMutual Retirement Services Division announced Jan. 5 that Douglas Ragusa and Daniel Fay have joined the company. Ragusa reports to Richard Cartier, assistant vice president, Taft-Hartley client management and business development, and is based in Canton, Mass., and Fay reports to Jonathan Shuman, vice president, head of the division’s business development, and is based in Boston.

Ragusa joined Dec. 5 as director, Taft-Hartley client relationship management. In this role, he is responsible for proactively managing Taft-Hartley client relationships nationwide. He has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, and most recently served in relationship management with New York Life Investment Management, LLC.

Daniel Fay joined Dec. 2 as key account manager. He is focused on strengthening relationships with key accounts and retirement plan advisory firms in the eastern region. Prior to joining, he held several positions in sales and relationship management with New York Life Retirement Plan Services and Paychex Inc. He brings with him over 16 years of experience in the retirement services industry.

Advisors Asset Management appoints Bart Daniel Chief Strategy Officer

Advisors Asset Management Inc. announced Jan. 5 that Bart Daniel has been appointed chief strategy officer. Employed with AAM since 2003, he will be responsible for working with the executive team to advance the formulation, development and implementation of strategies and policies, as well as driving their execution.

He brings more than 18 years of industry experience to the position, and previously served as senior vice president of product management.

Shannon Reid Named Director of Retirement Solutions at Raymond James

Shannon Reid has been named to the new position of director of retirement solutions at Raymond James, it was announced Tuesday. She joined in June 2007 as director of lending and cash management, and later led the private client group planning team.

Prior to joining Raymond James, Reid was a vice president with Goldman Sachs’ Investment Management Division and co-managed the southeast region of the wealth management business, where she focused on operations and strategy as well as in the development of wealth management solutions for high-net-worth clients.
