A $100,000 grant from The New York Life Foundation allowed Virtual Enterprises International (VEI) to host a national business plan competition for students this year. California’s Costa Mesa High School took home the top prize; pictured are the team’s members, top row, left to right, Dillon Escobar, Lisandro Barajas and Joshua Knox; bottom row, left to right, Anna Alvarado, Lisa Mai and Angeline Hong.

Thousands of VEI students compete in local business plan competitions every year, and 19 teams made it to New York City this year for the national contest. The teams are graded by a panel of business professionals from different industries and evaluated on their written business plan, their oral presentation, and their question and answer session.
