Laura Johnson has been named vice president of Institutional Markets for Symetra Life Insurance Company.

Symetra Life Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Symetra Financial Corporation (NYSE:SYA), Bellevue WA., made the announcement yesterday in tandem with the company’s debut of the creation of an Institutional Markets unit inside its Life Division. The unit will focus solely on bank owned life insurance (BOLI) and corporate owned life insurance (COLI).

Johnson, a 19-year Symetra employee who has experience with bank clients and BOLI sales, will concentrate wholly on retaining current BOLI business as well as exploring COLI and other institutional product lines. Previously, Johnson headed Symetra’s Life Division’s product management function.

Separately, Kelly Rabin was named assistant vice president, Institutional Markets Actuary. Rabin has experience working with BOLI brokers and clients as well as an actuarial background. Symetra says she will be responsible for pricing, filing, case design and other administrative functions within the nascent institutional life market unit.
