The Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE) has announced the selection of five new officers and four new board members to its board of directors, effective Jan. 1, 2011.

Michael L. Weintraub of Walnut Creek, Calif. serves as chairman of the board of directors, replacing Jack Dewald, CLU, RHU, of Memphis, Tenn. who remains on LIFE’s executive committee in the role of immediate past chair. Debra C. Newman, CLU, ChFC, LTCP, of Minneapolis, Minn. serves as chair-elect, and Stephen O. Rothschild, CLU, ChFC, CRC, RFC, of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Naples, Fla. as LIFE’s secretary. All of these officers serve a one-year term beginning the first of the year. Brian H. Ashe, CLU, of Lisle, Ill., continues as treasurer, serving an indefinite term. Marvin H. Feldman, CLU, ChFC, RFC, of Clearwater, Fla. is LIFE’s President/CEO.

The chair, chair-elect, treasurer and secretary are volunteer positions held by members of the LIFE Foundation’s board, which is comprised of representatives of its six producer organizations whose counsel and financial support are essential to helping LIFE carry out its public education mission. These organizations include the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU), GAMA International, Forum 400, Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), the National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies (NAILBA) and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA).

New board members include:

Clarke Langrall, Jr. CEPA has been selected to serve as a member of the LIFE Foundation’s board of directors. Langrall is president of Triumvirate, Inc., Baltimore, Md., and is one of only 132 Certified Exit Planning Advisors (CEPA) in the U.S. A life member of The Million Dollar Round Table, member and past president of the Forum 400 and member of the Financial Planning Association, Langrall is also the founder and member of the Board of Directors of National Partners Group and the founder and director of ASCBE (Association of Small Closely Held Business Enterprises). Langrall is the author of “A Life Underwriter’s Guide to the Federal Civil Service Market” and the “Exit Planning Review” newsletter as well as numerous articles on owner exit planning. A recipient of the 2007 “Heartbeat of America” award, Langrall is a member of the University of Baltimore School of Entrepreneurship and board member of Port Discovery, The Baltimore Children’s Museum.

Chris Schell, ChFC, CLU has been selected to serve as a member of the LIFE Foundation’s board of directors. Schell is Vice President – Agency at State Farm’s corporate headquarters in Bloomington, Ill. He has been with State Farm since 1990, and had previously served as an underwriter, agent, Field Executive and Vice President-Agency in the Texas Zone. Schell earned bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Dayton and a master’s in business from Ohio University.

Jeffery J. Taggart, CLU, ChFC, LUTCF has been selected to serve as a member of the LIFE Foundation’s board of directors. Taggart is a General Agent for UNIFI, serving life insurance needs of families, closely held businesses, farms, and ranches in southern Montana and northern Wyoming. Previously he had been with California Western States Life. A life member of the Million Dollar Round Table and past president of NALU, he has served as president of the Big Horn Association of Life Underwriters, the Wyoming Association, and president of NAIFA. He was also Wyoming Agent of the Year in 1996 and is a graduate of Brigham Young University.

Patricia L. Krarup, CLU, ChFC, MSFS has been selected to serve as a member of the LIFE Foundation’s board of directors. President of PLK Insurance and Financial Services in Wisconsin, Krarup specializes in retirement planning. She is a member of FINRA and SIPC, and is a Registered Investment Advisor. Krarup is the past president of both the MDRT Foundation and the Southern Wisconsin Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business and French from the University of Wisconsin, and CLU, ChFC, and MSFS from The American College, and is a Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow.
