Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, Horsham, Pa., has hired Timothy Thompson to be manager of the Dougherty Agency’s new office.

Thompson previously was general manager at Guardian Mutual, N.Y., and agency manager at MetLife, N.Y.

Thompson has a bachelor’s degree in political science and communications from the University of Montana.

Penn Mutual has also hired Christian P. Buzzanca, CLU, ChFC, to be manager of the Plamier-Ganley Agency’s new office and John J. Long to be sales manager of the DePaola-Chesney Agency.

Buzzanca previously was a general agent at National Life of Vermont, Montpelier, Vt. Long previously was sales manager at AXA Equitable, N.Y.

Buzzanca has a bachelor’s degree in business from St. Joseph’s College and in philosophy from the University of Steubenville.

Long has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and marketing from Rider University.

CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, has named Thomas A. McCarthy to be acting chief financial officer. He is replacing Annmarie T. Hagan in that position.

McCarthy previously was vice president and treasurer at CIGNA.

He has a bachelor’s degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University.

Securian Financial Group Inc., St. Paul, Minn., has named Kathleen L. Pinkett vice president of human resources and corporate services. She succeeds Keith M. Campbell, who will retire October 1.

Pinkett previously was vice president for the procurement and facilities service departments.

Pinkett has a bachelor’s degree from Macalester College.

Securian also announced it has named Chris Owens national sales director of individual life insurance for its subsidiary, Minnesota Life Insurance Company. And it appointed Andrea Mack as director, life product promotions.

Owens and Mack will carry additional responsibilities as members of Securian’s life product manufacturing leadership team. Both will report to Bob Ehren, senior vice president, life product manufacturing for Securian Financial.

ING Insurance U.S., Windsor, Conn., has hired Dan Hanlon to be president of its investor channel within its individual retirement businesses.

Hanlon, who joined ING in 2008, previously served as senior vice president for public market sales in the retirement services division. Prior to joining ING he held several executive roles with Fidelity Investments, N.Y., defined contribution and retail distribution businesses.

Hanlon has a bachelor’s degree from Franklin College.

The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., Hartford (NYSE:HIG), has hired Dr. David Williams as medical director of its individual life insurance division.

Williams previously worked at AIG American General Domestic Life companies, New York. He has a bachelor’s degree in biology from Amherst College and a MBA from Xavier University. His doctor of medicine degree is from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Williams is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve and recently returned from his third tour of duty as a physician in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Presidential Life Corp., Nyack, N.Y., has promoted Duncan Szeto to replace Jerrold Scher as chief actuary of its operating subsidiary.

Szeto previously served actuarial roles at MetLife Inc., N.Y., Inviva Inc., N.Y., and Prudential Financial Inc., Newark, N.J. He has a bachelor’s degree from New York University.
