American United Life Names Doug Gritton Vice President of Sales and Marketing

The leadership of the individual division of the American United Life Insurance Company (AUL), a OneAmerica company, Indianapolis, has announced that B. Douglas (Doug) Gritton has been named vice president of sales and marketing.

A graduate of The Ohio State University, Gritton joined the life insurance industry in 1976 as a part-time college trainee for MetLife. Following graduation, Gritton began full-time in sales and held various positions in agency management and training for MetLife. In 1996, Gritton became a regional vice president for the Ameritas Life Insurance Company of Lincoln, Neb. By 1998, he was promoted to vice president of agency distribution before assuming additional responsibility in 2002 for the combined career agency operation of Ameritas Life Insurance Corp. and Acacia Life Insurance Company. Four years later, Gritton became vice president of independent distribution for UNIFI and in Jan., he was again promoted to a vice president of agency distribution for UNIFI.

As vice president of sales and marketing for AUL, Gritton will work to grow distribution channels for producers by building new and fostering existing relationships. Additionally, Gritton plans to work with field partners to increase profit margins.

“I’m excited to join a company with an outstanding reputation in the financial services industry,” Gritton said. “I also look forward to working with field producers on sales strategies that benefit our customers who rely on us to assist them with their life insurance needs.”

In addition to building key sales initiatives with external producers, Gritton also will manage career and Personal Producing General Agent (PPGA) distribution and marketing division employees.

“Doug is a seasoned executive with great leadership skills and a commitment to relationship building,” said Mark Wilkerson, senior vice president of the individual division. “Furthermore, Doug’s experience is a tremendous asset to our organization, which further reinforces our commitment to the agency distribution channels.
