Michael E. Shunney Named President of Sun Life Financial Distributors

The U.S. division of Sun Life Financial Inc., Boston, has announced the appointment of Michael E. Shunney as president, Sun Life Financial Distributors, Inc. (SLFD), the wholesaling organization for the company’s U.S. annuity business.

Leading SLFD, Shunney will oversee annuity wholesaler productivity and lead development of Sun Life’s distribution operations. In addition to his duties as SLFD President, he will continue to serve as senior vice president and general manager, Sun Life Financial Distribution Group, reporting to Bob Salipante, president, Sun Life Financial U.S. In February, Shunney was chosen to lead the company’s Distribution Group, a newly formed sales organization comprised of the company’s Employee Benefits Group distribution organization and SLFD. Prior to this role, Shunney headed Sun Life’s Employee Benefits Group as senior vice president and General Manager, Group Insurance.
