Acquisitions and a 6% increase in the average amount of premium revenue per member helped PacifiCare Health Systems Inc. increase second-quarter earnings.[@@]
PacifiCare, Cypress, Calif., is reporting $93 million in net income for the latest quarter on $3.6 billion in revenue, up from $76 million in net income on $3 billion in revenue for the second quarter of 2004.
The managed care company ended the quarter providing or administering health coverage for 3.4 million people, up slightly from 3.3 million people a year earlier.
PacifiCare recently agreed to be acquired by UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn.
