NEW YORK, May 1, 2014—Investment Advisor, the leading publication for independent and independent-minded investment advisors and financial planners, and Envestnet, Inc. have partnered again to reveal the finalists in the 10th Annual Separately Managed Account (SMA) Manager of the Year Awards.
The SMA Manager of the Year Awards recognize best-in-class SMA managers, and will be presented during the “2014 Envestnet Advisor Summit: The Next Big Idea,” which will be held from May 14-16 at the Hilton Chicago. New to the competition this year is an award for Specialty SMA Manager of the Year. In addition, a single SMA Manager of the Year will be chosen from among the category winners as an exemplar of investment management excellence. Winners will receive extended coverage both online at ThinkAdvisor.com and in the July issue of Investment Advisor.
“Advisors are good at many things, but they’re not good at everything,” said Jamie Green, Editorial Director, Investment Advisor Group of Summit Professional Networks, which publishes Investment Advisor. “Identifying and honoring these best-in-class managers through a highly disciplined process is an important service for our advisor readers and benefits advisors and their clients.”
“For the past decade, these awards have made a vital contribution to the wealth management and investment management communities by shining a spotlight on money managers who consistently deliver meaningful results for their clients,” said J. Gibson “Gib” Watson, III, CIMA®, Vice Chairman, Envestnet. “Through their successful execution of their investment processes and dedication to their clients, these outstanding money managers have set a high bar for others in the industry, and can serve as examples for others to follow as they strive to improve their investment disciplines, practices and client relationships.”
To be eligible for an SMA Manager of the Year Award, a manager must prove sustainable and repeatable strategies that:
- Report to the PrimaGuide research application
- Have at least $200 million in assets
- Have tenured management, i.e., of at least three years running the strategy
- Rate highly according to Envestnet | PMC's due diligence process
The award finalists were determined using Envestnet | PMC Research’s systematic, proprietary and multi-factor evaluation methodology, which takes quantitative and qualitative criteria into consideration. These factors include performance, investment process and style, firm profile, composite, tax efficiency and customer service. The process takes months and much time and effort from Envestnet| PMC's analysts, who are experts not just on each asset class but on the specific managers operating in that class. They present their findings to the awards committee, which consists of Envestnet| PMC researchers and executives, and Investment Advisor editors.
