Jay Hummel is the Senior VP of Direct Sales and Service for American Century Investments' retail direct business, leading the team responsible for serving clients -- primarily individual investors, small business retirement plans and brokerage customers -- who do business with American Century through the firm's call center and website. The Direct business represents about 600,000 clients with aggregate assets of $36 billion. 

Hummel was most recently Managing Director of Strategic Initiatives and Thought Leadership at Envestnet (ENV), where he led the firm’s advisor training, consulting and content development activities. Prior to joining Envestnet, he was the President and COO of a large RIA based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Hummel started his career in public accounting and business consulting at Deloitte where he helped manage the day to day operations of the worldwide services to the Procter & Gamble Co. 

Hummel has been active in leadership roles on both civic and business boards, including Audit Committee Chair and board member of Alliance Business Lending, a regional asset-based lending company, and the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber’s Agenda 360 planning board.

He is the co-founder of Fuel, an incubator focused on supplying startup grants to emerging civic leaders. Mr. Hummel is the author of Success and Succession and The Essential Advisor, both published by Wiley.  

In 2014, Hummel received the University of Cincinnati’s Jeffrey Hurtwitz Award, recognizing the university’s top alumnus under the age of 35. 

Hummel and his wife, Valerie, live in Cincinnati. They are the proud parents of two young sons, Cooper and Dylan.
