Securities America said it selected Robin Claypool as its Assistant of the Year for 2012. Claypool, part of L&M Financial in Rochester, N.Y., will be recognized at the independent broker-dealer’s national conference, which is set for June 9-12 in Washington, D.C.
Claypool (left) is a 12-year industry veteran and serves on Securities America’s Sales Assistant Advisory Board. Securities America, which includes about 1,700 affiliated independent advisors, is owned by Ladenburg Thalmann (LTS).
The IBD says its advisors have roughly 1,500 assistants working with them nationwide. Each year, about 15 advisors nominate an assistant for the award, which Securities American has been giving since at least 2002.
“Robin’s character as a conscientious, thorough, detailed and capable person is the foundation on which our firm’s success is built,” said Kevin Clar of L&M Financial in a statement. “Thanks directly to Robin’s effort and meticulous attention to detail, L&M Rochester will be greatly increasing its community awareness and building its local brand in 2013.”
To qualify for the award, assistants must be nominated by a Securities America advisor, have a minimum of two years of industry experience and, if securities licensed, have a clean compliance record. According to the IBD, the selection of the top assistant also includes a review of specific instances of service that went above and beyond expectations to clients, advisors and the firm; demonstrated leadership abilities; and personal and professional development.
In Claypool’s case, she juggled both her regular duties and had a key role “in shepherding L&M Rochester through a dynamic year of positive change, including researching and facilitating a full-scale office move,” according to Securities America.
In addition to this recognition program and its assistant advisory board, La Vista, Neb.-based Securities America offers assistants access to a two-day conference that focuses on technology, compliance, operations and practice management; and a web-based training program.
